To Avoid Euthanasia For Her Severely Paralyzed Shih Tzu, Woman Tries Unconventional Treatment

Gizmo the dog was at risk of being euthanized after losing the use of his paws. This is, in any case, what several veterinarians had suggested to his owner, who decided to try everything to save him. She turned to a center specializing in alternative medicine.

Amanda Large and her dog Gizmo live in County Down in Northern Ireland. She had adopted this 13-year-old Shih Tzu last year, learning then that he was moving slowly due to an old injury.

A few weeks later, the senior dog couldn’t move his hind legs at all, or even wag his tail. He had also become incontinent, as his entire hindquarters were paralyzed.

His condition continued to worsen and he also eventually lost the use of his front legs.
Examinations revealed that Gizmo suffered from spinal injuries.

More than one veterinarian had advised her to have the animal euthanized, but Amanda Large was definitely not going to give up.

It was out of the question for her to let her 4-legged friend go like this without a fight.

She heard about a veterinary center located in Millisle, also in County Down, where animals that have lost their mobility are treated using alternative therapeutic methods: multimodal analgesia, acupuncture, physiotherapy, laser therapy…

Even if she had hope by turning to this establishment, she did not expect such convincing effects on Gizmo. “Honestly, the results we have had with his treatment are amazing. He is constantly improving,” Amanda Large told the Daily Star.

“I always knew he was a little fighter”
The Shih Tzu has, in fact, gradually regained the use of his paws and started to walk again. At the same time, it is also his joie de vivre and his energetic side that have resurfaced.

Gizmo seems proud to show off his newfound abilities; unbearable, he circulates from one room to another of the house, as if he himself could not believe that he was able to move again.
