There is no road in town! There are a few towns that don’t have roads leading to them, building a peaceful and much darker place. It can often be unbelievably quiet!

As long as there are no roads in town, the main way of transport is the canals and your own two feet!

The whole village is made up of islands on which there are houses with waterways between them.

With all the canals, people travel by boat!

A lot of people in the village have their own little “whisper boats” to get around. Whisper boats are used to keep the town peaceful. Because of that in the village is a very peaceful mood.

“The loudest sound you can commonly hear is the quack of a duck or the sound of birds”

There are lots of bridges that connect the houses. Their website says they have a total of 176 bridges connecting people around the village!
If you want to visit, you must leave your car in front of the door!

Just like taking off your shoes at a friend’s house, you have to leave your car on the outskirts of town when you go sightseeing!

This village has ancient roots, dating back to 1230 AD.

The name shows the foundation of the city. Giethoorn (goat’s horn) was called because of the hundreds of goat’s horns found in the swamp following a 10th-century flood.

The city was built centuries ago. You can visit and do pretty amazing things!
