Scared of humans, this kitten with a paralyzed hindquarters started purring when he felt safe

Skinny, sick and paralyzed in the hind legs, a kitten who desperately needed help found it from a volunteer foster mother. She took care of him and accompanied his progress until his adoption.

Archie was “tiny and terrified,” Caroline Grace, founder of California’s Baby Kitten Rescue, told Love Meow of the kitten she helped turn the corner and grow.

The little feline was then only 5 weeks old. He was not at his best health-wise, as the Los Angeles-based foster mother explained: “Under his fur he was just skin and bones. He was dehydrated, covered in fleas and had plant debris and dirt tangled in his coat.”

She treated him for parasites, cleaned and rehydrated. It was then necessary to help him regain weight and to trust him. Frightened, he hid under the covers, but a few hours later he began to relax, realizing that he was now safe.

He purred and demanded the attention of his benefactress.

When he started moving, Caroline Grace noticed that he had trouble using his hind legs. She also found that he used the litter box instinctively, without her having to teach him.

The next day, the kitten was seen by a veterinarian. Examinations and X-rays helped determine the cause of his paralysis; a congenital malformation of the spine. A care program was put in place immediately, including physiotherapy sessions, exercises and acupuncture.

“A kitten who brings a lot of joy to everyone”

Throughout the process, the young cat showed remarkable determination and “remained the sweetest and most adorable little purr machine”, according to Caroline Grace. Archie is a kitten who “brings a lot of joy to everyone who interacts with him,” adds the volunteer.
