Overweight pup sheds more than 5 stone after fears he was too fat to survive

Philip’s life was in danger. The reason? His obesity. Fortunately, a veterinarian decided to adopt him and take care of him.

Philip’s previous owners force-fed him cookies, cakes and other foods normally reserved for humans. Result: over the years, the English Springer has become 3 times heavier than it should have been, reveals Mirror in an article published on January 13, 2022.

His obesity seriously threatened his life. The dog was so huge, he could barely move without collapsing. He even ended up having difficulty eating normally.

“I’ve been a vet for 30 years and I’ve never seen a dog as obese as Philip,” said Edward Davies, a veterinarian at the Cheshire Pets clinic in Holmes Chapel, “it was amazing to see that his paws could keep him upright, and it was so big that it was difficult to examine it. “

Philip’s life was hanging by a thread…until he met Dr. Davies. “We never want to euthanize a dog when we feel we can cure it and bring it home. »

He did just that: the vet adopted his patient and put him on a diet. At first, the English Springer was unsuitable for walking. To begin with, its new owner has therefore strengthened its stamina in the garden.

Edward Davies had what he considered “a great moment” when his protege picked up a ball left by one of the other 2 family dogs and brought it to him. “It was like he was learning to play again, or maybe it was the first time,” his adoptive father said.

“Now he’s chasing the ball and picking up the sticks. Today, Philip can even swim, a healthy activity he loves!
Fortunately, the animal is now in good hands.

Thanks to the meticulous care received, an adapted diet and physical exercises, Philip weighs 30 kg. Her weight loss dramatically improves her quality of life. A real well-deserved makeover for this dog who was close to death!

Not only did he survive this ordeal, but he also found the perfect home in which to thrive. “He’s such a friendly dog,” the vet said, “his tail is always wagging and it’s nice to see him so happy.” »
