Guide dog helps visually impaired woman regain a taste for life

The arrival of the blind guide dog, Autumn, completely changed the life of a visually impaired woman when she had given up all hope. Thanks to the animal, she found a social life, a job and her joie de vivre.

Laura Bradley lives in Lanarkshire in Scotland. She has suffered from visual impairment since childhood, and the problem only got worse with time. The more her vision deteriorated, the more she lost confidence and taste for life, says Daily Record.

She managed to lead an almost normal child life despite everything. “I had learned to ride a bike and was playing hide and seek with my friends,” she says.

, the rare eye disease she had, macular dystrophy in this case, was not getting better – quite the contrary. At 15, an operation left her with double vision and she could see blurry in her left eye.

Recognized visually impaired in 2006, she could still read or see colors. She ended up losing her job at the factory, which she had held for 7 years, because her job became too dangerous for her. Laura Bradley had all the same resumed her studies in a specialized establishment.

She had obtained a BTS, then began a course in computer science at the University of the West of Scotland.

A few days before Christmas 2014, when the young woman was at a low moral point, she and her mother saw a spot from Guide Dogs, an organization that trains guide dogs for the blind. Laura Bradley called her and a few days later 2 Guide Dogs employees visited her to assess her needs.

“It was the happiest day of my life”
While on the waiting list, she began to hope and gain confidence again.

She learned to walk with a cane and volunteered with Guide Dogs 2 days a week. She was then introduced to Autumn, an 18-month-old guide dog who had just completed her apprenticeship. Between the female Labrador-Retriever and her new mistress, understanding and complicity quickly formed.
