Boy with a big heart spends his free time helping animals in a shelter

A young American has decided to devote his free time to animals at a shelter in New York. His mission is very close to his heart.

At 11, Evan Bisnauth is already considered a hero by his mom and the staff at one of the New York Animal Care Centers (ACC).

2 years ago, when his mother rescued a puppy tied to a fence and took him to the shelter, she discovered a program that might be of interest to her son. “Volunteers can read stories to dogs,” Evan told Daily Paws, “She asked me if I wanted to volunteer, I said yes! I love dogs. ”

This is how the preteen put his reading skills to benefit the animals. This activity allows, in particular, to reduce their anxiety and to develop their socialization.

On the first day, the young volunteer spent 5 hours reading a book to each dog in the association. “At the end of the story, I tell them, ‘Don’t give up. I have a lot of hope and I know you will be adopted,'” he said.

The story he prefers to tell his little ones? Belly Rubbins for Bubbins, in which the canine resident of a shelter ends up finding a forever home. “Sometimes they fall asleep on their backs with their paws in the air.

That’s when I know they’re really happy and relaxed, ”added Evan. Cats, rabbits and guinea pigs also benefit from its soothing presence.

The pandemic and the containments have not extinguished the flame that burns inside his heart. Since he couldn’t make it to the shelter, he figured out another way to help the animals. During this time he devoted himself to dogs in need of emergency placement.

To do this, he created an Instagram account (@EB and the Pets), where he posts dog “interviews” and their biographies. In 2021, Evan also launched a fundraiser: $ 1,000 (approximately € 885) was donated to the ACC.

Since government restrictions were lifted, the preteen has restarted reading workshops at the shelter, and even runs toy drives.
