A little girl makes it her mission to help scared and nervous animals in a shelter by reading them stories

Seven-year-old Summer Parkhill decided to volunteer at Arthurshiel Rescue Center in St Boswells, Scotland. Why ? To help vulnerable animals. How? ‘Or’ What ? By telling them adorable stories.

The little girl goes to the refuge at least once a week to find her four-legged companions. Her job is to soothe frightened and nervous residents. To do this, Summer uses children’s literature.

The young volunteer takes the time to sit down next to her charges and read them stories. His audience still seems glued to his lips, drinking in every soft, comforting word.

This activity really gives dogs and cats a moment of peace. Summer, pampering with her furry friends, is their weekly breath of fresh air.

“She will end up working with animals when she is older”

Storyteller’s love and passion for animals comes from her mother, Kylie Rankine. The 30-something has been volunteering since she was a teenager. Her older sister, Amy-Jane, 14, is also helping the community. This is a real family affair!

“When Summer was 5, I took her with me to the shelter, and it was from there, she really wanted to help,” she told the Daily Record. “Animals can come to the center incredibly nervous and fearful. Last year, Summer got the idea to read to them. ”

Canines and felines particularly appreciate these appointments with their favorite little human. According to Kylie Rankine, they trust her daughter and let her pet them. “It’s nice to watch,” she said.
