A passerby made a sad discovery, that of a dog tied to a fire hydrant, accompanied by her belongings and a note from her owner. The latter explains what led him to make the decision to part with the animal. The response of the association that collected him is most touching.
A resident of Green Bay, Wisconsin discovered an abandoned dog tied to a fire hydrant, FOX8 reported. Alongside the canine was a backpack containing its kibble, treats and toys. There was also a message where the owner explained that he was no longer able to keep his pet.
According to this note, the dog answers to the name of Baby Girl and is 6 years old. Her master said he was forced to separate from her in particular because he had to deal with health problems.
The resident who found Baby Girl sat with her for an hour, awaiting her family’s eventual return after a hypothetical change of heart, but no one returned.
The dog was taken to the local shelter, that of the association Green Bay Campus – Wisconsin Humane Society. She shared this story on her Facebook page.
In her post, she reminded everyone that anyone who can no longer keep their animal can bring it to the shelter anonymously, and that she never refuses a dog or cat in need.
The Humane Society of Green Bay then sent a poignant message to Baby Girl’s owner:
“First of all, we’re so sorry you had to part ways with your best friend. It’s obvious you love him and we can see that you did your best while battling your own health issues and life challenges.”
The author of the post goes on to say that he is sensitive to the love he had for Baby Girl, speaking through “the bag that you carefully packed with all his favorite things”, “the way in which you secured her leash so that she doesn’t get run over by a car” or even the fact that “you placed her in the middle of a neighborhood so that she could be found quickly”.
The association assures the dog’s former owner that she “is safe, that she receives tons of attention from [her] team, and that she is on the right track to find her next loving family very soon”. Baby Girl will indeed be offered for adoption so that she can make a fresh start.
