A baby zebra comforts and heals an orphaned rhino calf: the cute story of Daqisy and Modjaji

There in wild, Daisy and Modjadji would never have encountered.

The Care For Wild Rhino Sanctuary’s baby hippo and young zebra, on the other hand, have become unexpected friends and are assisting each other in their recovery.

Daisy was spotted alone and in distress in South Africa’s Kruger National Park in early December. Daisy’s rescuers rushed her to the sanctuary’s urgent care facility by helicopter because she was just a few hours old and weak.

Daisy needed round-the-clock attention and feeding, as well as a variety of drugs to help her immune system and maintain her body temperature.

Daisy, from the other side, was not the only new arrival at the veterinary clinic.

“Modjadji was transferred to the sanctuary’s ICU at the end of November after being found immobilized and barely breathing on the reserve following significant rains and storms,” said Louwhen Bowker, media liaison for the Care For Wild Rhino Sanctuary.

“At the time, Modjadji was thought to be a week old.”

The two young orphans forged an unbreakable bond and became each other’s adopted family.

“As they became bigger and braver, their curiosity overtook them, and they began interacting with one another,” Bowker explained.

“Rhinos are very gregarious creatures who demand constant company. Daisy enjoys Modjadji’s companionship and finds him quite loving.”
